Links with Manchester City Council's Current work on Governance

Current Activity by the Council

As we highlighted in the opening home page, partnership working is an increasingly important aspect of public service delivery.

The City Council has produced a handbook for leaders that is intended to help managers and elected members to understand and navigate the duties for which they are accountable.  It uses the same definition of governance that has informed this project:

"Governance comprises the systems, processes, cultures and values by which the Council directs and controls its internal business and its external relationships, and through which we engage with and lead Manchester's Communities".

Building on Nolan's Seven Principles of Public LIfe the Handbook contains a guide to Partnership Governance supported by a Partnership Governance Framework which highlights how to define and register partnerships and how to establish partnership governance evaluation criteria.  The work subject of this project will focus on the values and behaviours that underpin the work already underway in Manchester.
